About Belinda’s

Belinda’s is a family run, traditional craft bakery on the outskirts of the New Forest, founded in 1983 and run by Peter Ellis, his wife Ruth and their children.

Peter is a Master Baker. He had his first contact with the baking industry when he left school aged 15 and went to work for a family run bakery in Essex. He left the Baking industry for a while to join the Merchant Navy. Having completed two round-the-world trips, Peter left the Navy and attended Southampton Bakery College, winning various awards including Top Student three years running! After successfully completing his training Peter then went to study at National Bakery School, now called London South Bank University. He married Ruth in 1975.

Peter worked in various bakeries in Bristol and Somerset for the next six years gaining experience all the time. He finally joined the Tesco Team of Bakers in Bristol before taking the plunge and opening his first bakery, The Oven Door of Kingswood in Bristol in 1981. Two years later he moved to Ringwood and began trading as the Belinda’s Bakery we know today. This has led to the opening (and unfortunate closing) of more shops in Fordingbridge, Salisbury, Poole, Christchurch, Verwood and Ferndown.

Peter plays an active role in the local community. The Ringwood High Street shop (closed in 2008) successfully housed a youth coffee bar for 20 years which still continues today on Carvers playing field in the old Tennis Club House. He enjoys fishing and football, and has run ‘play-to-train’ football sessions for young people for a number of years. He takes an active role in the Methodist Church, and has trained several apprentices over the years, some of whom have gone on to open there own bakery business!

Peter and his family are working hard in moving their business forward, whilst maintaining all the art and craft techniques of traditional baking. Belinda’s has just started producing new lines of Organic and Speciality breads, and a Pizza night to serve the local community at the weekends.

Peter’s passion for baking is as strong as ever as Belinda’s Bakery enters its third decade of trading in Ringwood!
